REGIONAL GREENHOUSE

GAS INITIATIVE

Blank Envelopes

Dear Senator/Legislator  ___________,

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a bipartisan effort by Northeast states to cut carbon emissions from power plants. It generates funds to invest in renewable energy, like solar.

Governor Wolf recently vetoed legislation, HB 2025, that would stop Pennsylvania from joining and benefiting from this agreement. Economic analysis of the program concludes that it would create 27,000 jobs and boost our state’s economy by nearly $2 billion. It also will reduce asthma attacks and other health problems for thousands of Pennsylvania children and adults. The Department of Environmental Protection estimates that from “2022 to 2030, participating in RGGI would lead to an increase in Gross State Product of nearly $2 billion and a net increase of over 27,000 jobs in this Commonwealth. The results also show that overall citizens of this Commonwealth could see a cumulative increase in Disposable Personal Income of $3.7 billion by 2050.

A recent poll found that 72 percent of Pennsylvania voters support joining RGGI.

I urge you to uphold Governor Wolf’s veto.

Sincerely,
